DARK INDONESIA: A POLITICAL LEGAL ANALYSIS

Abstract

The phenomenon of weak law enforcement, rampant corruption, injustice in the judicial 
system, and human rights violations have formed a negative image of the legal conditions 
in Indonesia which are then represented in the term "Dark Indonesia". This term reflects 
a multidimensional crisis that is not only structural, but also raises the collective 
awareness of society towards the failure of the legal and political systems in carrying out 
their functions fairly and effectively. The main problem in this study is how legal politics 
contributes to the formation of these conditions and the extent to which social 
movements are able to encourage changes in public policy. This study uses a qualitative 
method with a literacy study approach, through analysis of academic literature, mass 
media, and public discourse in the digital space to understand public perceptions 
regarding the term "Dark Indonesia". The results of the study show that the social 
movements that raise this narrative not only reflect resistance to legal inequality, but also 
become an important instrument in increasing legal awareness and encouraging policy 
reform. Thus, this study emphasizes the urgency of adaptive and participatory legal 
politics as the main foundation towards a more just and democratic legal system.
